Tubing in the Smokies
The high elevation of the Smokies provides several mountain springs that run down the slopes and merge together into large streams and creeks, eventually becoming rivers. Tubing down one of these scenic rivers provides a natural view of some of the fantastic views the Smoky Mountains have to offer.
Most of the picturesque streams and creeks are located in the south, near the towns of Townsend, Bryson City, and Cherokee. These rivers include Deep Creek, the Oconaluftee River, and the Little River. Tubing can also be done, however, near Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge on the Little Pigeon River.
Select hotels have free tubing services, or, if you prefer, you can buy an inner tube at any souvenir shop.
